My project is still in hiding - but that is not it's fault - I have been in hiding too!! I have not been sewing so, now that I am again, I have to get alot of my projects done - And Judy Martin is one on my big to-do list!!

And I think any JUDY project will do, so Jennifer - welcome to the club!!! And jillquilts -how is finger lakes going??? It is a new season, so lets make a new commitment to ourselves - Let's get outside and bring our projects with us!!! We all need a breath of fresh air, and a good airing of our stale thoughts! GET some sunshine on these projects and some light on our imaginations!! Ladies and Gentlemen - lets make a goal of when these projects need to be done!!

Okay, I am commiting to July 15th 2011!!! I almost didn't put in the year, then thought, it need a year attached. An idea or a plan is just that till you put a date on it - then it's GOAL.

My project is in box right now - it was taken off the wall and put in the box shortly after that pic was taken. Time to clean out that box. Don't we have enough on our mind about things we need to do??? We talk about de-cluttering our house and getting it cleaned out so you feel free. Well, what is stopping us from doing this to our minds?? We all have our projects that we are not working on stored up there in our thinking caps, we need to de-clutter that area!!!! And the only way to do that is to get these lost lonely projects out of the dark and brought to the light, then FINISHED!!!!

Out of sight not out of mind does not work for creative people. So, lets get these things in sight so we can clear them out!! We all have 'new' things we want to do, so we need to de-clutter!!

JULY 15 th 2011. It is a Friday. Hmmmm, I just asked myself a question: is that the top done or the whole thing quilted and bound. oh, wow, uhmmmmm - thoughts are racing - I want it Done. so, Okay, top has to be done by July 15th and off to my quilter - yeah, that is perfect, my tummy isn't so tight now. So, top done and off to quilters on July 15th. That is my goal. OH! AND BINDING READY FOR WHEN THE QUILT GETS BACK SO I WILL HAVE THIS PROJECT COMPLETLY DONE BY SEPT!!!! (my quilter sometimes does not stay around town long enough, she likes to travel, so I am putting that into my plans too!!!! She always gets things done, and I like that! )

Okay, it's a new year coming up Ladies and Gentlemen!!! I'm really happy with the fabric choices that I have made, especially the light blue for the accent color. It has little dot swirls all over it!

And now onto the next step... Cutting! Just to give you an idea of this pattern, the logs are cut at 1 1/2" pieces! Of this light blue that I like so much, I have to have 1304 1.5" by 1.5" pieces. I had never seen the book or heard of the designer before, but I was really struck by the quilt design and I just couldn’t take my eyes off the pictures in the book! The customer and I decided what was wrong with her block – she just picked a different FQ and all was well – but I couldn’t forget about the book.

I think that I ordered it within a day or so when I found a good price online.

I also found Judy’s website and saw all of the sample pictures of her quilt designs that people have made. They are gorgeous!!

Once the book came in the mail, I realized that this would be a tough quilt to make. The pieces are cut generally at one and a half inches!! That is small in the quilting world! And very tiny for my tastes! But the quilts are just stunning!

After perusing the entire book, I decided that there are several that I would love to make, but that I needed to settle on making just one first to see how I like it. I decided on the Finger Lakes pattern.

This is from Judy's website.

I joked with the gals in the TQI yahoo group that this would end up being a 5 year project! Year 1 – buy the fabric. Year 2 – cut the fabric. Year 3 – assemble the blocks. Year 4 – assemble the quilt top. Year 5 – quilt and bind. Some of the gals wanted to make it a 7 year project. :)

While we were joking about the 5 Year Plan, some of the gals expressed an interest in making one of Judy’s quilts and some said that they already had the book and fabric. I suggested that we start a support group in the New Year for anyone interested in completing one of Judy’s quilts. This idea was very well received! And a few of us thought that a Group Blog would be the way to go.

I have created the Group Blog for anyone participating to keep up with what everyone else is doing and for everyone else to follow along. The blog was set up with the idea that once we are done with our Judy Martin quilts that we will continue using the blog for the Tran-Quilt-Ity Yahoo group for any challenges or swaps that we do as a group. At this time, you don’t have to be a member of TQI to participate in the JMQSG and blog, but this could change in the future. You will have to contact me so that I can add you to the list of contributors.

So check out Judy’s site and if you see a quilt that you want to make and you want to have the support through the blog, come and join us!!

Amy's Timberline Fabrics

Here are some of the green/blue-green fabrics for my Timberline Log Cabin.

Amy
